Applying His Advice

When babies are born to brand new parents they are usually apprehensive about all that needs to be done to take care of their little one properly.  Many new parents study books and magazines; and glean advice from parents, friends and doctors about what happens next, how to handle the different stages a child goes through and just general care.

All this is done with the expectancy that after infancy comes the toddler, turned elementary student, followed close behind by high school, college, marriage and all the other “norms” that come with growing up, which surprisingly passes very quickly!

Parents often wring their hands with despair as their children reach their teen years, and take paths of rebellion that leaves them exasperated and concerned.  Often it doesn’t occur to us to look in the one Book filled with all the answers.  God has provided solutions to all our problems better than any printed book we can find in any book store or any web site online.  Yet, it’s regularly the one resource we fail to search.  Along with the Bible, is the practice of falling on our knees and beseeching the Lord for direction.

Our world is falling into a spiraling trail of decay.  Some would even say it is out of control.  Our laws are changing to accommodate those who would deny that Christ is or ever has been.  The Believer is not permitted in many venues to open a Bible or share a grain of truth about the God they believe in, yet those who oppose Him are able to speak their minds.

The Bible is filled with advice and prophecies about what is to happen next, how to handle the different stages of our lives and even prophecies that will be fulfilled when Christ raptures his church and creates his new kingdom on Earth.  Yet with all this information, the Bible is often the last place we look for information about these very issues!

Often the Bible is accused of being complicated and hard to read.  This is probably true when we don’t approach God’s word with the Holy Spirit’s guidance.  It clearly says God’s Word is foolishness to those who don’t know Him.  That makes sense.  Minds are clouded with the evils of this world that can’t see clearly when Satan, the Evil Prince of this world confuses and twists beliefs to what is right and wrong.  The world is presented as a glittering pot of gold, when really it is far from that!  There are mountains to climb and boulders to maneuver and rivers that must be waded!

When we come to God with a desire to understand and worship Him, his Words will become clearer as we apply them to our individual lives. God will speak to our hearts and guide us to truth when we have a heart to believe what is written. When we do this, we will be blessed, because this is His promise.

So I challenge you to pick up God’s Word first thing in the morning, at mid day and in the evening, or at least as often as you can every day.  Read it, study it, know it.  We are responsible for all that is written, not just those pieces of information we choose.
